Our Innovators class uses an accelerated curriculum. It is helpful if your child previously attended an entry level preschool program that focused on fine/gross motor skills as well as rudimentary academics, however that is not mandatory. Before considering enrollment, please keep in mind that because we utilize an accelerated curriculum, our students will experience an above average level of rigor compared to most pre-k programs. It is important for parents of new prospective students to understand that while we do review basic classroom behavior, the students in our pre-k class are held to a higher level of expectation regarding behavior and accountability. This includes respect for the classroom and its contents, their teachers and peers and the ability to exhibit positive behavior with minimal redirection. These attributes are demonstrated daily by the Prodigy teachers as well as taught and discussed through positive conversation and awareness. It is also important that these expectations for behavior are mirrored at home.
Our pre-k program focuses highly on Language Arts (ZooPhonics) and Mathematics (Various). We will touch on these subjects every day we meet. Because we do focus on reading and writing, there are periods of time your child will be asked to sit in a chair and practice directional worksheets, write in journals, learn spelling words and focus on a lesson through completion. Otherwise, many of our lessons, particularly our centers, are very hands on and interactive, which allow for the students to move around. Additionally, we do many lessons in science involving messy, loud and fun experiments where the students are encouraged to expand and explore their thoughts and questions. Other areas of focus include art, music, fine/gross motor functions, social/cognitive behavior and emotional/self regulation. Depending on the weather, we allow for outside playtime EVERY DAY!
